So You are Getting Married! |

If you have just made the decision to get married you are probably very excited - over the Moon! Now you will be starting to think about what it all means. The months between now and your wedding day will pass all too quickly and everything has to be ready on time. Well, you could do a lot worse than browsing through the pages of this website and reading a few of the articles on what to consider - and sometimes what to avoid.
The first item upon which a bride-to-be normally focuses is her dress. What style of dress suits me best? What colour? How much should I pay for it? However, there are countless other decisions and choices to be made and some of them may be even more pressing than the dress!
Try to consider your wedding organization as a whole - not piece-by-piece or service-by-service. The dress and other fashion considerations, the venue, the transport, the photography, the food, the music, the entertainment and of course the guests, collectively set the tone for the success of the event. However, each of these key planning considerations has implications for other areas of organization. The choice of venue affects the photography, the distance between venues affects transport and timescales, and the size of the dance floor may rule out certain types of dancing. Consider all aspects together and try to understand how one aspect affects another before committing to the key reservations.
Good luck! |

The final part of the old adage "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" is often overlooked. It adds "a silver sixpence in her shoe".
A significant number of brides still adhere to this tradition and take the trouble to obtain a silver sixpence, either pure silver or silver in colour, to place in one of their shoes. Silver sixpences, a relic of the old pre-decimal currency, are still available from coin and collector's shops both locally and on the internet.
The silver sixpence tradition almost certainly originated from a desire to demonstrate wealth. Although sixpence was once a worthwhile amount of money, it was probably intended as an amount that would signify not only a bride of at least some means but also someone with a wealth of happiness and good fortune. The wearing of the coin within a bridal shoe consequently came to symbolize a happy and prosperous life. |
